Amador Tuolumne Community Action Agency Help at food distribution sites four hours monthly or with paperwork two to four hours weekly in Tuolumne County, or deliver food two to three hours monthly, DMV printout required. Joi, (209) 984-3960, ext. 101.

Calaveras County Health and Human Services Agency Provide in-person or phone support to older adults dealing with emotional challenges or isolation, one hour per week plus two-hour monthly meeting, free training and background check, mileage reimbursed. Linda, (209) 754-6642.

Calaveras County Office of Education Offer friendship and support to youth ages 6 to 18 through the Calaveras Youth Mentoring Program, two hours weekly, minimum one-year commitment, four-hour training; Katie, (209) 736-6078. Columbia State Historic Park Lead tours, present historic reenactments or research, 10 hours monthly, train for six Saturday mornings starting in January; or work in museum, 10 hours monthly, two-hour training. Kelly, (209) 532-2023.

Community Christmas Eve Day Dinner Prepare food, set up or decorate at Sonora’s Mother Lode Fairgrounds, flexible hours 9am-5pm Dec. 22-23. Serve food, take tickets or clean up in two-hour shifts, noon-6pm Dec. 24, must sign up to work that day. Cathie, (209) 586-4802.

Hospice of Amador and Calaveras Help at Angels Camp thrift store four hours weekly; Dave, (209) 223-4762. Offer grief support to schoolchildren, provide companionship for patients or respite for caregivers. Tuolumne County Library’s Adult Literacy Program Tutor adults in reading, writing and life skills, 90 minutes weekly, four-hour training. Lynn, (209) 694-2727.

Tuolumne County Sherriff’s Community Service Unit Help with office work at one of five CSU offices, or help with event parking, crime scenes and more, 16 hours monthly, one-week training. Dave, (209) 743-7631.

Central Sierra Environmental Resource Center (CSERC) seeks volunteers for Sat., Nov. 4 project:

We did a couple miles of trail work on the Westside Trail in October of this year, but there is plenty of work still to do! We’ll be clearing vegetation, removing rock debris, and possibly installing more signs. This will be close to a full day project. (Caution! – This particular project site has areas with poison oak. So, we encourage you to avoid volunteering for this project if you are sensitive to poison oak.)

Mother Lode Office of Catholic Charities  seeks volunteers for the following:

  • CAFÉ  (Connections & Awareness for Elders Progam): Offer support, encouragement, resources and socialization for those who are isolated and lonely.
  • SPARROW (Senior Peer Alliance for Rural Research on Wellness): Provide support, encouragement and resources for those who feel lonely or sad, or who have trouble solving problems.
  • Legal Advocacy for Seniors Program:  Welcome and assist clients with completing intake forms.

Sierra Senior Providers, Inc. seeks interested service clubs, businesses or community organizations to sponsor a lunch at the Senior Center in Sonora. Sponsoring group chooses a day (Mon., Tues., Thurs. or Fri.) to provide three to four volunteers to serve lunch and to contribute the current average cost of a lunch ($350).
