Area 12 Agency on Aging: This agency’s helpful staff provides services to more than 11,000 seniors in five counties: Alpine, Amador, Calaveras, Mariposa and Tuolumne. Services include information and assistance, caregiver support, nutrition, fitness, Medicare counseling and much more. Amador Tuolumne Community Action Agency: Runs Lifeline program, food bank, helps with utility bills, housing resources, mentoring opportunities and more, atcaa.org. The agency also maintains a website linking readers with health and human services, infonettc.org.

Catholic Charities’ Mother Lode Office: This Sonora office is the base for several programs serving the foothills region: The Mother Lode Ombudsman Program, Outreach and Engagement Program, and Legal Aid to those 60 and older. Common Ground Senior Services: This Jackson-based nonprofit provides senior services in Amador and Calaveras counties, including nutrition, information and transportation programs. 223-3641, commongroundseniorservices.org.

Disability Resource Agency for Independent Living: This nonprofit provides a host of essential services for the disabled. Its Sonora office serves Tuolumne, Mariposa, Calaveras, Amador and Alpine counties. Meals on Wheels: For those who are homebound or disabled and unable to cook for themselves, Meals on Wheels provides balanced meals. In Tuolumne County, contact Sierra Senior Providers, 533-2622, sierraseniorproviders.org. In Calaveras County, contact Common Ground Senior Services, 736-9996, commongroundseniorservices.org.

Sierra Senior Providers: Operates the Senior Center on Greenley Road in Sonora, provides seniors age 60-plus with rides to medical or related appointments and runs Meals on Wheels in Tuolumne County, (209) 694-8645, sierraseniorproviders.org.

Tuolumne County Behavioral Health Department: The agency’s Enrichment Center promotes wellness and recovery for people with mental illness through support groups, SSI and Medi-Cal assistance, referrals, resources and activities.  The center is open Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm, 102 Hospital Rd., Sonora, (209) 533-6695, tuolumnecounty.ca.gov/index.aspx?NID=222
