PTSD Support Groups, VA Sonora Clinic, 13663 Mono Way, 588-2601: Until recently the clinic offered four support groups focused on therapy, education and coping skills. With help from the Modesto Vet Center, more are being added “so we can have smaller groups, and meet the growing need in the foothill region,” says the VA’s Patricia Noonan, a licensed master social worker. “We get several new veterans per week at the clinic, the majority of whom have PTSD.” Many of those seeking help served in Iraq or Afghanistan.

The hour-long, weekly meetings are open to veterans enrolled with the VA; they are at various times, and drop-ins are welcome. For veterans with severe PTSD, out-of-county inpatient programs are available. “They get superb, top-of-the-line care from specialists,” Noonan says, “and there are some wonderful success stories.”
